Being an investor myself I was encouraged to invest in bricks and mortar. However this type of property investing is not for the faint hearted. The buildings will need continuous maintenance, even new houses, there maybe a plethora of tenant turnaround.
There is the government pursuance of taxing all landlords, and their decision to no longer allow mortgage interest to be a full claimable allowance. You will have to carry out an annual self assessment for HMRC. Then when you need the money for your pension, you will have to sell off your portfolio and incur capital gains tax.
